My Mathematical Past
My answers for our four questions:
1. I think I have a wonderful learning experience for math during my secondary studying time. I love my Math teacher always tried to relate Math world with real world. And I also like sometimes she would give us some extra brainstorm questions if we finished our work earlier than other classmates. Those brainstorm questions are very tricky, but she would give us some hints. And if we can solve these questions by ourselves, we will get awards! Sometimes just candy. But it will also bring me a sense of achievement.
2. Sometimes I got stuck with a specific question, I spent much time on that, but I just cannot solve that one.
3. My high school Math teacher Mrs.H. She really makes every math lesson more fun and less stress for every students. We can learn new things, as the same time, we never lose the interests for learning Math. The process of exploring is always interesting. For example, I remember when we started to learn Geometry, she brought us tangram. (A Chinese game consisting of a square cut into seven pieces that we can arrange to make various other shapes.)
This in-class game really let us to have chances to feel why different shapes could have same area.
4. The only principle in Mr.W's class will be the marks of exams. I think exams and assignments could be tools to test students' understanding, but should not be the only principle. If a math class only focuses on marks of exams, I think it will take away students' passion of learning.

Thanks Ashley. But this is very brief and doesn't tell me as much as I expected about the four questions, what was it specifically that reached you in high school math? What exactly did your teacher, Mrs. H. , do to make math interesting?
ReplyDeleteI notice you are also missing your blog response to the Skemp article. Please catch that up this week!
Oh my gosh, Tiffany, sorry that I thought I was reading Ashley's blog for a moment there... my apologies for the mistake!!
